Comfort Food Without Weight Gain: For Real?

March 26th, 2009

Feeling low is part of our everyday lives and there are so many reasons behind the depression crunch that’s hitting more women than ever.  I can very much relate to those moments of blues and sleepless nights, crying my eyes out as I munch a huge bag of chips.  I release all my anger and frustration with the crispy sound of every bite.  It just feels so good until I run out of it and feel that vicious cycle creeping in. Continue reading

To Detox or Not to Detox?

March 21st, 2009

A heart-warming reunion parties with family and friends can be a nice way of breaking the monotony of daily living, but it can also be an ideal occasion to binge on tasty treats that are so delectably… irresistible.

It is just hard to say NO to a plate filled with whopping calories, especially when it is made with love.  The last thing you want is to break someone else’s heart, just because you want to be very selective with the way you eat.  Continue reading

Budokon: Just Another Fitness Gimmick?

March 20th, 2009

When Cameron Shayne introduced the way of the spiritual warrior known as Budokon, he could never have been wrong.  Is this another one of the many fitness hype?  Perhaps Not.

I love fusion exercises that doesn’t strain the muscles a lot and I do this in the form of yoga and pilates, or whichever is more convenient.  A routine workout can sometimes be too dull and I sometimes do my own in the Continue reading

Breaking the Myth: Which Diet Really Works?

March 19th, 2009

Losing weight had always been a struggle I’ve been having ever since I became conscious of my healthy weight.  There are so many fad diets out there promising quick results and it’s so easy to get lost among the choices.

It is a never-ending trial and error ordeal for me.  To go low-carb or high-protein? This question has been plaguing me these past few weeks and I don’t know which will work best for me.  There is always a wisdom in the Continue reading

When A Healthy Heart Loves a Garlic

March 18th, 2009

Garlic breath is so uncool… but garlic is totally good for the heart.  Garlic is among the oldest natural remedy that’s so convenient for use.  It has its share of legend, folklore and history.  Garlic have even been used to ward off vampires in local flicks and some remote areas of Eastern Europe.

The only thing I know that’s true about garlic is it’s healthy for the heart.  It helps lowers the blood pressure by releasing Allicin, which is that sulphur compound giving garlic its nasty taste and smell.  Allicin is the secret of every clove of garlic you chew. Continue reading

Should You try Colon Cleansing Diet?

March 17th, 2009

This past few weeks, I was feeling very sluggish even if I had a complete night’s rest.  I feel just depleted of the energy that I used to have.  It is like a feeling of being sucked into a vortex that dries you up slowly into lethargy.

This Saturday, I made a visit to a friend’s house and I was curious on what she is drinking.  She said that she’s on a “Master Cleanse” diet for three Continue reading

Mediterranean Diet is a Woman’s New Best Friend

March 14th, 2009

I love everything…Mediterranean – from the land, the culture, the people and yes, the healthy diet.  I’ve always been a fan of Organic food products and nothing beats an organic, Mediterranean salad with a dash of salt, pepper and hearty olive oil.

I just read about the study made by the Harokopio University in Athens, Greece on the effects of Mediterranean diet in women.  Mostly fish-based Continue reading

Chronic Fatigue or Just Faking It?

March 13th, 2009

Once known as the Yuppie Flu, we are hearing about this epidemic known to have afflicted the working class in the large metropolis:  CFS or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I had a colleague at work who had been granted a week’s worth of vacation due to CFS, when everyone of us is dying to take a break from work anytime soon.  I wonder if she had just been faking it?  Or was it for real? Continue reading

Coffee for Sun Cream?

March 12th, 2009

I have always been a caffeine junkie, sipping my favorite cup of Macchiato to rev me up for the day or a Frappucino Grande to cool me down  on a sizzling hot afternoon.  We all love coffee and that rich aroma filling you like an aphrodisiac, making you want to have more.

Coffee for Suncream? That’s a little bit odd for me.  I’ve just read some news about it.  Studies have found out that caffeine blocks UV rays and Continue reading

Sweet Wars: Honey Vs. Sugar

March 11th, 2009

Honey… one word that is truly sweet, in metaphor and physical form. I just love honey and I can’t get enough of it.  To point on my last post, it may be inhumane to force bees to keep our cravings for these liquid amber at bay.  I guess the bees would have been proud to know that their labor is not put into waste.

Sugar is sweet…but Honey… is better! Continue reading

Can you survive a 30-Day Vegetarian Challenge?

March 10th, 2009

The Pledge to Eat Veg – A 30 Day Challenge have caught my attention today as I was looking for the healthiest Vege recipe on the net.  PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have tied up with Experience Project and launched this campaign.

The project was launched on January 6, 2009 where people can join the Continue reading

Does Corn Syrup really make Children Obese?

March 9th, 2009

There’s a fine line between natural foods and those that are not: PRICE.  In these days when a call for wise spending and smart shopping are at its high, is it fine to skip that pricey, organic label and go for those that mimics its taste?

Summer is a time for quenching that thirst and it’s very tough to persuade kids to drink just the plain-tasting water, even if it’s ice cold.  Flavors are Continue reading

The Magic Bowl: Sound for Healing

March 8th, 2009

After a long day at work, I would often find myself relaxing to the sound of New Age music plugged into my ears.  It feels like taking that refreshing bath on a tub full of rose petals, as I breathe the aroma of scented lavender essential oil.

I have received a sound file from my friend and he told me to plug it to the speakers so I could feel the vibration of the crystals that are meant to Continue reading

Too Much Anger Can Be Very Fatal

March 7th, 2009

There’s a good reason behind the idea of counting slowly from 10 to 1, as you breathe out that fuming anger waiting to explode from within.  To be angry is normal and healthy.  Nobody’s perfect and our lives are full of those itty-bitty things that make us react with flare.  But when this anger becomes uncontrollable and destructive, that’s where the problem sets in.

I’ve always seen those drama flicks where the sub character becomes so Continue reading

Alkaline Water: the New Elixir of Youth

March 7th, 2009

Checking out some fruits on the local grocer, my eyes were suddenly caught by a label on the nearest shelf:  Alkaline Water.

” Another Health Hype..” I thought.  We could never have enough of those bottled waters in many forms and names.  Water just taste exactly the same, basically.  But how about the benefits? Continue reading
