Mediterranean Diet is a Woman’s New Best Friend
I love everything…Mediterranean – from the land, the culture, the people and yes, the healthy diet. I’ve always been a fan of Organic food products and nothing beats an organic, Mediterranean salad with a dash of salt, pepper and hearty olive oil.
I just read about the study made by the Harokopio University in Athens, Greece on the effects of Mediterranean diet in women. Mostly fish-based diet, instead of the usual red meat we are so used to, it has been found out that Mediterranean diet is good for bone mass.
That means a lot, especially for working women such as myself. The older we get, the weaker the bone gets and it needs all the help it can get – from calcium supplements to foods that are rich in it.
What’s good about Mediterranean meal is: FLAVOR. Not only is it low in nasty, saturated fat, but it also just tastes so good. I love to dip my crunchy bread in olive oil for breakfast, rather than the usual margarine that’s high in hydrogenated oil.
Overall – this diet is high in good monounsaturated fat, minerals and fibers. There are so many recipes available on the web and here’s one that I love: Horiatiki or Greek salad. Greek foods are seldom boiled, which preserves their flavor and nutrients. It only uses the freshest ingredients available which result into something…delicious!
