Breaking the Myth: Which Diet Really Works?
Losing weight had always been a struggle I’ve been having ever since I became conscious of my healthy weight. There are so many fad diets out there promising quick results and it’s so easy to get lost among the choices.
It is a never-ending trial and error ordeal for me. To go low-carb or high-protein? This question has been plaguing me these past few weeks and I don’t know which will work best for me. There is always a wisdom in the saying that when you eat less, you weigh less. Yet, I don’t want my body depleted of all the nutrients it needs to keep me going everyday.
On February 26, the New England Journal of Medicine have published a surprising report on which diet really works well. They have tested 811 overweight adults with diets that are not based on the current trends we have today. The study consisted of a 90-minute moderate exercise program done weekly, and required participants to keep a food journal, for monitoring. The diet consisted of foods that are heart-healthy and low in saturated fat.
What comes as a surprise is that no matter what the diet is, as long as calorie intake is low, then you can expect results. It was astonishing to see weight loss and lower insulin levels in those who joined. The key to weight loss is to count and limit calories you take, regardless of its fat or carbohydrate content.
Of course, if one will try to do a diet program, it is wise to consult a nutritionist about it. Just choose something that will please your taste buds and give you that hunger control you need…without the crash. Whole grain foods are rich in fiber, which helps you feel full. In the end, there’s really no quick fix to losing weight. It takes good eating habits, healthy choices and lifestyle changes – All for the Best!
