A new hype is making a huge hit – from tinseltown to your very own town. People have been calling it names like the new miracle food, magical wonder, and even calling it the latest super fruit:  Acai Berries.

We all know that berries are a potent source of antioxidants that help our bodies fight off damages made by free radicals.  These free radicals can cause premature aging, wrinkles, or worst – cancer.  We have all grew up with the time-tested quote of eating plenty of fruits and vegetables everyday. From cherries, grapes, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, prunes to raisins, we know that these berries pack a very powerful antioxidant concoction to keep us living healthy.

Recently, Acai berries have been touted by a lot of marketing campaigns on the web, TV, radio, and magazines.  Even chocolates are being filled with these tasty deep purple berries, promising a hearty indulgence with the benefits.

Acai is a fruit native to Belize, Brazil, and Peru.  The fruit, produced by the acai palm tree, appears to be the size of a grape – with a lesser pulp.  The juice is extracted and exported to many countries worldwide.  Acai is popular as a stand-alone juice, or used on your favorite blend of fruit smoothie.

People are now calling this little wonder a SUPER FRUIT, with 10 times more antioxidants than grapes. There is just a rise of avid supporters of this fruit and many are claiming its effectiveness in weight loss.  Even the news are praising the wonder benefits of this magical fruit.

Is acai berry a hype or for real?  One must remember that acai is a fruit, not a drug.  It can be a good supplement, but it must never be considered a sole cure, specially for serious illnesses needing immediate medical care.  There are plenty of scams out there and it is wise to stay vigilant.

The acai fruit can be most beneficial when eaten fresh.  The pulp of this fruit is so fragile that it needs to be frozen. This means that you are getting less hearty benefits from commercially-produced juices.  Better to have some than none at all, though.

There is just no magic trick when it comes to weight loss.  Acai can be your body’s super defense, but you still need to exercise daily to keep fit.  There are ways where you can curb your cravings for unhealthy foods – naturally.  It takes great discipline to master your mind over your body.  But when you do, the reward can be – priceless.
