Finding Your Healing from Herbs

May 20th, 2009

Imagine having to visit your doctor due to an unexplainable pain and being given a poultice from natural herbs to apply on that affected body part.  Or perhaps, being handed a few leaves and barks to boil and drink to cool down your fever.  In reality, these things never happen.  Often, we find ourselves with a list of prescription pills to buy over our local pharmaceutical counter.

Herbalism have its roots since the dawn of the Ice Age man, from 13,000 to 25,000 BC.  Radio-carbon dating have found out medicinal herbs used to treat those nasty parasites in his intestines.  The ancient Greek, Romans, and Egyptians have all used medicinal herbs for healing.  Even the animals have an innate instinct to chew on healing plants whenever they feel sick.  Truly, there’s always a wisdom to the saying that we all find healing in nature.

With the advent of modern science and medicine, we see these traditional medicines being pushed to the side, making way for better, more convenient treatment.  Herbal medicines are often made up of various elements, which must be carefully combined to make it work efficiently.  There are not much  studies to prove its claim for healing, since many of those remote areas using them are far from being studied.  Also, some cures come with unexpected results.

The question now is:  Should We Stop Using Herbs for Healing?

Even Ayahuasca, the world’s most powerful herbal medicine, can cause doubts in many skeptic minds.  Some would even think that these herbs will only give a placebo effect since the mind believes it can heal the body.  Take Note:  The Mind is the Seat of Control… Over Your Body.

Healing should always be natural and nature gives us a bountiful source of plants, fruits, and herbs to speed up our healing from within.  This, however, doesn’t give one an excuse to mix-and-match anyway he or she likes.  An expert herbalists could help a lot, if you opt to go the traditional route for healing.

Herbs are rich in Vitamin A to Zinc, which can help our bodies become healthy and strong, shielding us from free radicals damage that causes cancer and premature aging.  Even your potted aloe vera can help relieve you from burns and frostbites, yet, it is just convenient to squeeze a lube of your commercial, paraben-laced sunblock.

Many sickness nowadays are caused by synthetic, processed materials.  If you want effective healing from within, only go for natural.  Nature will always sustain us, that is, if we set down our pride and acknowledge its great healing and spiritual powers.
