Nothing beats the woes of body pain – from arthritis, rheumatism, to your musculoskeletal pain. One will always become tired of those over-the-counter painkiller pills, and we see the advent of a new age of going back to the traditional roots of healing.
You may not have heard of it but another alternative therapy had caught my interest when a neighbor had been raving about how relieved he felt after having that performed on his back: Cupping Therapy.
You might have guessed right. This therapy relieves pain from congestion by applying a cup or cups with the use of heat and suction. The oldest medical book called the Ebers Papyrus have written about its use in Egypt during 1550 BC. Back then, this journal is considered as top of its kind, being practiced by the ancient Chinese, Egyptians, and the Greeks.
Many people are being lured to try out this therapy due to its claim for treating back pains and rheumatoid arthritis. The practice of cupping is so widespread, especially in Asia’s southeastern region.
What happens is that a pressure is formed by the vacuum inside those heated cups, which can cause the blood to form, healing that specific area. The reason why it’s performed only on your back is that it targets the five meridian regions , which are believed to be linked to your body’s internal energy.
There is a belief that when one is sick, the body’s energy is unbalanced and these traditional healing arts manipulate this energy to bring back harmony and healing. Also, cupping is said to release toxins trapped in your body since the cups suck deeply into your tissues, clearing your blood vessel.
There are still skeptics on the benefits of this treatment, since there are no proven medical studies to back up its claim. Having this performed on you means minor swelling and redness of your skin. However, always choose an expert to have it done – to avoid the risk of burns.
Healing must always come from within, and these holistic therapies are like icings to your cupcake of well-being. Live Well!
