Laugh Your Stress Away

July 3rd, 2009

How many times have you felt that oh-so-heavenly bliss after laughing out loud over your favorite comedy flick? Perhaps, you even have fallen off your chair, laughing your heart out over some prank, amateur video on you tube, or that funny act on your downtown comedy bar? Whatever it is that tickles your funny bones, laughing just really feels so good.

Then, we hear amazing stories of cancer patients truly recovering from their doom – with just a dose of good ol’ laughter each day. In a crowded room, laughter can just be like a virus, spreading its cheers even when there’s nothing really funny. Just the sound of the most unusual, outrageous laughter can make a multitude of – laughter. I have experienced it firsthand.

It is notable that when we feel happy, we are in some form of an invincible shield that protects our minds and bodies. Happiness can never be quantified under a lab microscope and recent studies say that our genes are probably linked to this happiness factor we experience.

In today’s culture of stress, it is highly notable that those in the business of positive psychology is becoming in-demand. There is just a need to be – happy. Perhaps one day, we would be seeing our doctors write down a prescription of laughter each day, to help speed our recovery from diseases.

Whoever said that laughter is the best medicine, must be really a genius. If laughter is an infectious disease, then, it is one of its best. In fact, there are many laughter therapies, tours, and group sessions that are gaining its popularity. They even give you info, news, and training if you can’t find that natural fun.

Is laughter becoming a scarce commodity too these days? Are people losing their laughter marbles? This just makes me wonder. There’s just too many unhappy people nowadays. Happiness is just around the corner if you learn to open up yourself to that child-like wonder inside.

It is undeniable that laughter truly heals your body, mind, and soul. Tibetan Buddhists knew this and neuroscience can just tell you the same. The best thing is: It will never cost you a cent.
