It might be a laughing matter, but our modern society is fast becoming a ” constipated ” society. A growing number of people all over the world are suffering from infrequent bowel movements that can make one wonder if people have been too busy to take a poop lately.

The good news is, constipation is not a disease, but a symptom of other underlying factors. There is also a dilemma between what is considered a regular bowel movement, since they can differ from one person to another. It can mean twice a day for some, and thrice a week for others.

Is stress a factor in constipation? Unfortunately, YES – a big factor, that is. On top of the modern demanding and unhealthy lifestyle we live in, all of these tough times are just taking its toll on our mental and emotional well-being, which will be later translated into various physical diseases of the body.

Constipation just puts any person at unease. It just feels like you’re going to explode, only that, you have stubborn and hard stool that is so difficult to expel. This happens when your colon has absorbed too much water, when food is moving slowly in your digestive tract. Your feces, then, become hard and dry. Emptying of your bowels become a painful ( and do I hear cursing? ) thing to do.

There are other factors that causes constipation, namely:

1. A diet low in high-fiber food
2. The use of laxatives, most often find in slimming teas
3. Lack of physical activity or exercise
4. Holding back that very moment when your body signals you to make a bowel movement
5. Medical conditions like heart stroke and diabetes where muscles and nerves affect normal bowel movement
6. Drinking Alcohol and sodas that dehydrates your body, causing constipation
7. Not drinking more water
8. Disorders of the colon or rectum that needs medical attention

Don’t ever ignore constipation, since it can lead to serious diseases like cancer. Just imagine trapping all those toxins inside your body. In time, it will leak its waste matters to your cells and bloodstream. So, if your bowel habits change, have severe stomach pains, lose weight without reason, or can’t seek help from fiber and exercise – SEE YOUR DOCTOR ( a.s.a.p.)
