Homeopathy: A Dying Form of Healing?

July 13th, 2009

I seem to be confused with herbal remedy and homeopathic treatment. Only with a bit of a research have I found out the difference between the two. For example, in herbal remedy, you use onion for its antioxidant healing properties that work well against cold and flu. On the other hand, you use onions in homeopathy to treat hay fever because the very scent of onion can produce symptoms similar to the illness.

In simple terms, Homeopathy (“home-ee-AH-pah-thy”) is a form of healing where like begets like. It is a form of healing where substance that produces the sickness you experience is diluted into extremely small doses, believing it to hold the key to your healing. Many people have claimed to be cured from this type of treatment, thanks to its first discovery by the genius of Samuel Hahnemann – a physician, chemist, and linguist who lived in Germany in the late 1700s.

While the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine is supporting a number of studies in this area, there are many controversies surrounding this therapy that threatens to wipe it off in a matter of years. Homeopathy is still being studied for treatment of chronic fatigue, pain, cancer, and certain disorders of the brain.

There are still debates on the effectiveness of this healing, since the compounds used and diluted were said to lost its potency and that patients are cured by the so-called placebo effect.

With the fall of homeopathy… means the loss of prominent homeopaths who had painstakingly made studies on the practice of homeopathy over conventional medicine. Are we going to see an end of the World Homeopathy Awareness Week in a few years to come?

The National Center for Homeopathy can give you all the info you need to know, which you might find helpful. Like conventional cure, there is a plus and a minus side to it all. One clouded area of homeopathy is that it takes longer than the usual over-the-counter pill. No one therapy suits all. It depends on the sufferer to find balance and cure.

There are a few cases when people feel more ill and it is best to seek your health care provider before and after using this treatment. What causes people to raise an eyebrow and doubt this form of healing is the idea that which causes illness can also cure. It’s like getting rid of snake poison..with snake venom. Plus, ultra high dilutions can render the cure – useless.

It is the author’s belief, though, that people should still be given the choice to find their own natural healing. It doesn’t mean replacing professional medical advice. It just means finding the best alternative that works best.

Be Healthy! Choose Wisely!

Here’s a hilarious parody on Homeopathy that best describes how people scrutinize this form of healing:
