Saying No to Flavored Cigarettes!

September 25th, 2009

How many times do we encounter the sign ” Smoking is Dangerous to Your Health? ” How many times do we ignore this statement? Even with major scientific findings backing up this claim, for many people, smoking has been a quintessential part of daily living. A day is not complete without puffing the favorite brand of tobacco stick. There is always an argument that everybody dies at some point, but smoking is definitely a slow torture that will lead to many serious complications of the lungs and the heart. You may be lucky enough to elude cancer, but you may never know when the time catches up with your destructive habit. Regret always comes in the end.

The US Food and Drugs Administration has posted a bulletin on September 22, 2009 on the huge ban on cigarettes with cloves, or flavored with your favorite fruit or candy flavors. This is now considered illegal under the new tobacco law and there will be serious consequences to face. This makes sense, specially when flavors entice those who are under 17 to puff a stick. With all these tasty flavors, puffing a flavored cigarette can be more detrimental, making someone hooked on what seems to be a cuter, safer alternative to the traditional premium cigarettes for sale on the market.

Most of these flavored cigarettes come from South/South East Asia. People can even buy cloves and hand-roll them to the cigarette of their choice. What makes it a fast-seller is the promise of flavor that gives the usual cigarette a new twist. The truth is, herbal or not, any cigarette that you smoke can bring harm to your health. Most often, these herbal cigarettes carry higher concentrations of tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide. Since they are manufactured abroad, there is a question on the long term effects on its safety and health risks. The U.S. Center for Disease Control have even reported that studies in Indonesia showed those who smoke kretek cigarettes are often exposed to higher risks of lung diseases.

The ban has been placed to stop luring younger people to get into the habit of smoking. In china, a genius solution has come up with an Electronic Cigarette that promises to fuel a person’s smoking habit, minus the tar and nicotine. This is more costly than the usual cigarette and it is becoming an instant sensation. However, the effects of using electronic cigarettes on the long run is not carefully documented and there might be risks of future health hazards. Besides, electronic cigarette doesn’t stop you completely from smoking, but it just gives you a smoking alternative with a safer twist.

Organic cigarettes or not, they both bring risks to a person’s lungs. In fact, clove cigarettes are mostly made of poor-quality tobacco, which can give you all those nicotine, tar, and carbon monoxide – multiplied by two. That dangerous! The last thing you want is to cough with blood, get nose bleeds, have severe sore throat, or get an upper respiratory disease. In the end, it may be your choice to puff or not to puff. Remember that it takes tremendous will and discipline to stop a deadly habit and when you do, there’s no going back. You may not make up for each minute of your life you lose by puffing a stick, but you can lead a healthier lifestyle that will be both good for you and those you love.
