What’s Wrong With America Today

November 15th, 2009

Looking for a new inspiration from the web, I have come across NaturalNew’s A to Z list of what’s wrong with America today. It is a sad yet ironic perspective on how America has evolved into an artificial nation, or a nation fed with too many artificial alternatives that wreak havoc to one’s health. One can only think of the rising number of obese people to see how unhealthy foods had been reshaping the way a healthy human body is supposed to look like ( or weigh right ). Why is there a higher risk of heart disease and diabetes in the U.S. than anywhere else? Coincidence? How many coincidences will have to prove that there’s truly something wrong with the way people eat their foods?

From the list made, we agree with the author on:

1. A for Aspartame – This magic powder promises to satisfy your sweet tooth, minus the calories. But this artificial sweetener is causing haywire to your brain’s chemicals, making you crave more sweets and too much of a good thing instead.

2. C for Codex Alimentarius – Hopefully, this won’t be passed as a law by January of 2010, or we can all suffer from vitamin and nutrient deficiency, when stricter regulations will be made on everything that claims to cure, without approved hard evidence on its therapeutic claim. A simple herb as a garlic can even be labeled as a dangerous herb. The big pharmaceuticals will control just how much nutrient you need, and that will be on a minimum level. Codex may also mean the end of those in the business of alternative health supplements.

3. G for Genetically-Modified Organisms – When playing god can alleviate momentary hunger to many hungry and poor nations across the globe, there are dire consequences. These super foods are stripped of their natural nutrients and are considered as hunger-filler. There have been reports of severe allergic reactions brought about by eating these franken foods.

4. J for Junk Food – One may wonder why America’s supermarts are full of those colorful, tasty-looking treats that promise instant nourishment, minus the health benefits. We know it’s bad for us, but we just can’t resist eating these junks.

5. M for Mainstream Media and Mammograms – There may be few cases, but these shouldn’t be overlook before having a widespread promotion of mammograms, which can lead to a healthy person getting breast cancer and heart damages.

6. S for SSRI drugs – Also known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, this drug used in psychological disorders such as depression can have more bad effects than good, which can lead to addiction and disability to the worst level.

In the end, America needs to stand for its right to have natural healing and healthier choices that only natural, organic products can bring. These synthetic nutrition and solutions can have a long-term debilitating effects that can slowly change our very own genetic makeup. For those unlucky few who have suffered serious disabilities and even death at the hands of these artificial treatments, we can only give our deepest sympathies. True health comes with the awareness that we, humans, are part of nature after all and that everything is provided for us to live our life to the maximum – if we only care to share, instead of making profits with a high price to pay.
