Junk foods, either we love them or hate them. Still, it is a never-ending battle in keeping our palates satiated and our bodies healthy. For the very sole reason that it is junk, the word itself may give us all those terrifying thoughts about a bad health and a bulging waistline. From your frizzy soda, hot fries, to those bags of crispy tater chips – you can’t simply say NO to these yummy treats. You can only wonder: Is it you? Or is it prime time TV?

Junk foods hit the spotlight in all those colorful ads. They even make short appearances in movies that are rated PG. Brand placements have been popularly used to promote these junk foods and whether it can affect a kid’s psyche through subliminal messages is still a big question. Take for example the huge 80’s blockbuster E.T. which has made the sales of Reese go up by almost 65 percent in just a few months time after the movie is released. Coincidence?

Why do we love junk foods in the first place? No matter how empty these are of essential vitamins and nutrients you find in good foods, we love junk foods simply because they are made to make us crave for them. It has something to do with our bodies’ biology and genes. We just need all those sources of quick energy to keep us on the go, even our ancestors thousands of years ago have wanted the same thing ( though they didn’t get theirs from a bag of potato chips ). The only difference is that we have all these junks available to us today, which give us that quick energy boost that makes us crave for more, until we eat a lot of carbs, fats, and sugar. Anything in excess is bad and what tastes good can kill us, eventually. From obesity, diabetes, heart diseases, and even to deadly cancer – these took its roots from the bad foods we choose to eat.

Stop Fooling Yourself! If you have been feeling empty on junk foods and you fill yourself up in a continuous cycle, you have to simply ask yourself: Do I like faking it? What’s the point, really? You know it’s bad for your health in the first place. Is it laziness? There are surely plenty of naturally-healthy, organic alternatives out there that is equally satisfying – with the health benefits.

If you’re clueless on how to simply say NO to junk foods, here are the best ways on how to avoid them for good:

1. Clear out all those junk foods from your home.
2. Eat nutritious meals, snacks, or desserts.
3. Avoid anything that’s made on the “fast” lane and strive to prepare your meal at home.
4. Bring healthy snacks to work. You can seal it in disposable zip lock plastics, or you can bring your own handy air-tight container.
5. Watch out for your cravings! Don’t let it ambush you when you’re tired, down, or panicky.
6. Skip anything fried and go for those that are broiled or grilled. Do you really want to eat all those grease?
7. Never skip breakfast and eat smaller meals throughout the day. Resist the urge to binge eat.
8. Be aware of your choices and always read your food labels.
9. Hydrate! Water can keep you feeling full and satiated.

Before you are even tempted to take another bite of your favorite junk food, try to imagine eating your life away. Would you really care to spend all those bucks on poison? Your body may not suffer instantly, but the consequences can build up over time. You don’t want to be sorry for your wrong choices later. Live a healthy life. You are Truly What You… EAT!
