When you’ve recently included a new fellow member in your family then you’re most likely aiming to replace ones exterior doors and interior entry doors with some more secure kinds. Your own child’s safety is the most significant however do not forget that you can even hurt oneself by failing to pay awareness to a door. Bear in mind you’ll find so many incidents which can take place due to entrance doors, and utilizing the necessary provision actions is highly suggested. This consists of entry doors, as well as internal and exterior doors, because every one of them cause a risk of injury.

The most basic safety measures that you can have put in are doorstops. You’ve probably currently seen them in various residences and buildings and you are most likely constantly asked yourself exactly what the point of installing them is. The truth is that doorstops don’t provide significantly in terms of injury prevention, but they do avoid harm to wall surfaces through preventing the doorway by smacking it with force.

Door guards on the contrary can offer a vitally important safety feature: they eliminate fingers from getting trapped in the door as it’s closing. The concept of operating for door pads is not the same, and there are several styles to select from. Setting them up is especially essential for families with small kids, as they’re one of the most susceptible to getting their fingertips trapped within the entrance door.

Some door pads function simply by covering the hinges using smooth rubber or plastic material which goes entirely in the doorway body to the door. Others eject the fingertips in the door as it’s being sealed. There are other designs too, and there can also be various defenses for your entrance of the door, for its rear end, and for the full doorway.

When the title suggests, full door security protects both the entry and the back of the door using anti-finger trapping products. The price is nevertheless greater for full doorway defense, so this doesn’t signify that all your doorways need to applied this safety level. A danger evaluation primary needs to be executed, to find out what the appropriate degree is.

Safety doorways will also be positioned in selected places, as they’re less dangerous than regular entry doors. They use a distinct safety system compared to door pads, and instead of hiding the part of the front door which is threatening, they just utilize a different form for your entrance door. They use a spherical extension that moves inside and outside of a specially developed area, because the door is closing and opening. This particular eradicates many risk of fingertips being caught in the entrance door, causing them to be incredibly reliable.

As for exterior doors, you should have custom exterior doors mounted, and ask for anything safety features you desire the entrance doors to have. The cost of custom made doors shouldn’t be considerably higher than that of typical doors, and getting the precise attributes you desire makes it worth while. Bare in mind that protection is the most important, and spending additional on obtaining secure doorways around the house is way better than wasting time in the medical center because of finger accidents or another type of door connected incidents.

Adults need at least six hours of sleep each day and with the stressful lives we live, that is close to impossible. We all know that having a good night’s sleep means having a great morning after. We don’t really want to shove down ourselves all those chemical pills to help us fall asleep as we can get addicted to it. When having your dream sleep takes more than just a lullaby to come by, you need to look to the foods you eat.

What Foods Will Aid You to Get Better Sleep?

Foods can help perk up or slow down your brain and you need to choose foods that are high in sleep-inducing chemical called Tryptophan, such as dairy products ( cheese & milk ), seafood, soy products ( soybean, milk or tofu ), poultry, meats, whole grains, beans, rice, lentils, hummus, hazelnuts, eggs, peanuts, and seeds of sunflower or sesame.

Is Drinking Warm Milk Helpful in Making You Sleep Better?

There is no scientific evidence that drinking warm milk can help you sleep better at nights. Although people may feel comfortable doing so, this myth can be related to the placebo effect of believing that it will really make you fall asleep.

How Do You Eat Right to Have Better Sleep at Nights?

It will always come down to one word: Moderation. You have to watch out your diet carefully and follow these healthy habits:

1. Don’t eat large meals that are high in fat before you go to sleep. This can make you stay awake at nights, not to mention, making your risk of weight gain higher.

2. Take a small snack several hours before bedtime so you won’t get awake suddenly at nights due to hunger pangs.

3. If you’re prone to heartburn, avoid eating foods that are spicy.

4. Don’t drink too much fluids before going to bed or it can wake you up at nights when you have to go to the bathroom.

5. Avoid caffeine at all costs before going to sleep. Know that this is a stimulant that keeps you awake. Try drinking your last cup of your favorite coffee eight hours before you go to sleep.

6. Avoid alcohol. Many think that drinking alcohol makes you more sleepy. Although this may be true, alcohol prevents you from getting deeper sleep, resulting to you waking up with a tired feeling ( or the worst hangover of your life ).

Did You Know?

Eating a bag of non-fat popcorn, thirty minutes before bedtime, will help you achieve relaxation. The carbs in the food will make your body produce a neurochemical called Serotonin – making you feel good and relaxed. Just make sure your skip the butterfat!

You can also try deep breathing techniques, meditation, or binaural music to help you achieve the deepest stage of sleep. Sometimes, all you need is a makeover of your bedroom to make it more conducive to sleep. Always keep in mind that choosing health will always win when it comes to your battle with sleep. Sweetest Dreams!

You wake up one day to find a strange-looking rash on your leg, a bump on your navel, or even too much hair left on your comb. Is there something to worry about? It’s only normal to worry about changes in yourself, especially when they are related to your health. For this reason, we give you strange medical symptoms to watch for and a few tips whether it’s a cause for worry or not.

Solving the Mystery of These Five Common Health Symptoms

1. Hair Loss

Normal: Losing an estimated number of 100 strands throughout the day
Why It Happens: This can happen due to hormonal changes, a sudden stop in birth control pills, during/after pregnancy
When to Worry: When you lose a lot of hair due to stress, mineral deficiency, or an over/under-active thyroid

2. Eye Twitches

Normal: Eye twitches after hours of doing computer work or having too much caffeine/nicotine
Why It Happens: You are under stress
When to Worry: If your chin thrusts forward as you blink since it can be an early sign of Meige Syndrome, a rare yet treatable neurological disease

3. Too Much Hiccuping

Normal: Hiccups can last a few minutes to hours; Some experience it once a month
Why It Happens: It is believed to be caused by electrical impulses in the vagus nerve, extending from the brain stem to the colon – to your heart rate
When to Worry: If you continuously hiccup for a day. You can check with your doctor to rule out irritations of the phrenic nerve.

4. Fingernail Discoloration

Normal: White spots on your fingernails are a result of an impact and not of vitamin deficiency.
Why It Happens: You accidentally put pressure on your nails ( like getting your fingers caught in a drawer )
When to Worry: If you see discoloration all throughout your fingers and toes, you need to see a dermatologist to rule out the possibility of a fungus infection or psoriasis. Pitted nails can also be a sign of autoimmune disorders such as reactive arthritis and inflammation of the joints, eyes, or urethra.

5. Numbness or Tingling

Normal: Numbness or tingling of your muscles and nerves can happen when you are exposed to extreme cold. This can be remedied by putting on a pair of gloves, warmer clothes, or immersing in a hot tub.
When to Worry: If you still feel tingling and numbness even in warm weather, you might have a pinched nerve in your neck or lower back, nerve damage, or even diabetes. Talk to your doctor about options on how you can live a pain-free life.

Your healthy choices will definitely help you lead a better lifestyle. Know that a happy mind means a healthy body. Try to live a life that’s stress and worry-free. If in doubt, you can simply take a time off and meditate your way back to natural healing. You have the power of choice in your hands so listen to your body when it speaks to you. Take care… of You!

Psychology of Fear, Anxiety, Stress & Anger

On our last post, we talked about boosting your brain’s memory power and your ability to focus. These can all be achieved if your mind is relaxed in the first place. Did you know that stress is the main cause of all health problems in your body? When you are stressed, it’s easy for you to gain weight, get sick, and feel super low. Relaxation can help lift you up, calming your mind, as well as recharging your energy. You might notice that when you’re stressed, you tend to eat more of your comfort food.

Quick Ways to Relax Your Mind

Stress is an everyday reality we face, and you may not always avoid outside triggers, but you can definitely tame your mind. Get your cortisol levels under check with these mind relaxation techniques:

1. Controlled Breathing

When you are under stress, your breathing becomes shallow and rapid. Your brain needs all the oxygen it can get to stay focused. Learn how to control your breathing under panic situations by taking a long deep breath through your nose, holding it for a few seconds, and exhaling slowly through your mouth. Repeat up to 10 times until you feel relaxed.

2. Meditation

Even 15 minutes of deep meditation before you go to sleep can make you feel brand new the next day you wake up. Choose a private place that’s far from distraction and meditate. Cleanse yourself from negative thoughts and if you need more help, you can always use music to help you reach your inner zen. Yoga and Tai Chi are the most popular meditation techniques among many.

3. Massage

There’s no replacing human touch when it comes to relaxation, even with all the massage gadgets and chairs around. Get a full-body massage once a week to help soothe your body and mind and make sure it’s done by a certified professional. You may request for an aromatherapy oil to give you that reviving effect.

4. Shut Down

There’s no sense thinking about things that have a one-in-a-million chance of happening in reality. Shut off those worries and fears from your mind when it’s time to go to sleep, or just think of the word ’sleep’ itself to help you sleep better at nights.

The mind is like a sponge and it can handle just enough. At the end of the day, when your energy has been used up, you need to recharge and relax. Your healthy lifestyle and choices can definitely help in the process. You have to put your best efforts to get the relaxation you crave for. Let Go… Relax..

Simple Relaxation — A Guided Meditation

We can become forgetful of things and it’s normal. But as we age, we may start to feel our brain slowing down like someone put a voodoo spell on us. If you’re one of the thousands of people out there who gets totally frustrated when your brain becomes all too foggy, know that you can do something about it! And yes, it has something to do with your lifestyle and the foods you eat. Let’s explore these natural ways on keeping your brain as sharp as steel.

Effective Ways of Boosting Your Brain Power

1. Relax

All those stress and worries bombard your brain with information it doesn’t need. Did you know that you can think better when you’re relaxed? So, before a major meeting or making a big plan, take time to chill out. Studies say that meditation can help boost your concentration.

2. Love Your Fruits and Greens

Rich in antioxidants, fruits and vegetables help get rid of toxins and free radicals that damages every cell inside your body ( including those of your brains ). Snacking on berries, especially blueberries, are said to help improve your memory as it contains compounds called Anthocyanins.

3. Explore

From learning something new, playing word games, to that travel adventure — these are all mentally and visually stimulating that will help fight signs of mind aging and lessen the risk of you catching Alzheimer’s Disease. Besides, you need to take a break and have fun.

4. Take a Walk

Did you know that taking a few minutes of walk can elevate your glucose levels? This is essential to your brain’s memory power. This is why doctors keep on nagging you to exercise daily, not only to keep your body healthy, but your mind as well – not to mention making you feel happier and more confident about yourself.

5. Choosing the Right Supplements

If you’re taking vitamins and minerals, make sure they are top-grade and chemical-free. Your healthy choices will definitely save you from future, negative consequences. Stock up on Coenzyme Q10, which is an antioxidant that helps combat free radicals and speed up energy production in your brain cells.

Overall, you need to take control of your body and get yourself checked for any signs of high cholesterol and high blood pressure. It’s all about moderation that will help your brain as sharp as a knife. Learning to live your life in the NOW is the key to making your mind focused and worry-free. Relax!

Your health is the most vital part of your life. Without good health, you will not be able to do the things you loved most, that which will lead to the completion of your dreams. Did you know that happiness is an important part of staying healthy? Know that the shamans have been right when they say that the heart, mind, body, and soul are all connected. When one is sick, the others are ill too.

When everyday is not always a shiny day for us and dark clouds hover, it is tough to stay positive. Our thoughts link us closely to our bodies and for it to stay at ease, we must get rid of the mind’s dis-ease – through positive affirmations. There is a scientific evidence showing that our immune system is closely working with our nervous system. This means our minds and emotions can have an impact over disease.

How Do You Harness Positive Affirmations in Your Life?

1. Love Yourself

Each time you look in the mirror, see the wonderful person staring back at you. You are beautiful in every way. Take time to appreciate who you are and feel good about yourself.

2. Forgive

Why do you hold on to the past? All those bottled up feelings of anger, hate, and resentment are bad for your mind and body. Forgive and let your wounds heal. You don’t have to feel like a victim for the rest of your life. Don’t stress yourself and learn the art of letting go.

3. Create Positive Statements

Instead of saying ” I can’t “… for once, say ” I can .. ” Create positive statements and repeat them to yourself as if they are already happening in your life. If you long for peace, say ” I am living a peaceful and happy life. ” You may not believe it, but these positive statements help your subconscious to manifest them in reality. Some people call it the law of attraction.

4. Respect Yourself

It is now time to take a total makeover of your life and take great care of yourself. Have you been living a sedentary lifestyle lately? It is not too late to start making healthy choices, or doing things you love. It’s all about feeling good inside and outside. You need to nurture yourself – with a healthy diet and a regular exercise.

5. Make Realistic Goals

Creating positive affirmations can be a great thing, only if they’re achievable. If you push things way too far, your mind will start thinking negative thoughts that will make you feel hopeless. You can start by being grateful for the things you have today – whatever feels good to you.

Sometimes, you need to avoid people with negative energy that drain your positivity away. There is no point wallowing in sadness. There are plenty of reasons to smile each day, if you only take the time and be grateful about them. Laughter probably is the best medicine in the world, so don’t miss your chance to have a good, hearty laugh. It’s not only good for the heart and soul, but for the body as well. Laugh Your Troubles Away…

Think Positive Thoughts as You Listen to this Beat:

At the end of the work week, you feel more sluggish than a slug that you can only wonder why you feel so tired. When you’re low in energy and you feel tired all the time, even a power nap won’t help much at all – then, you really need to address the overrated term called Fatigue.

Fist thing you need to know is that fatigue is not sleepiness, no matter how the feeling gives you an overwhelming desire to sleep. In some cases, there are underlying medical conditions which require treatment. In most, a simple change of lifestyle works the best in bringing vitality back to your life. So, what really causes fatigue?

Major Causes of Fatigue Explained

1. Inadequate Sleep

If you lack quality sleep, chances are it’s hard for you to focus on tasks you need to do. Adults require 7-8 hours of undisturbed sleeps at night. Try plugging into binaural music and make sleep your priority. Ban all those disturbances from your bedroom and when you still have troubles, seek help from your doctor.

2. Skipping Meals

Eating little of your good foods will keep your blood sugar levels at low, making you feel sluggish. Don’t skip your breakfast and stock up on complex carbs and protein. Avoid anything with artificial sweeteners like aspartame.

3. Iron Deficiency

This is the most common cause of fatigue among women. Anemia can happen when there’s little supply of oxygen-carrying red blood cells that your body needs. Take iron supplements and eat foods rich in iron like lean meat, liver, beans, or shellfish.

4. Depression

When the mind and heart is on the low, the body follows. Depression can contribute to fatigue, when you’re feeling down. It can be accompanied with headaches and loss of appetite. Talk to a friend, join a support group, or seek psychotherapy. Laughter is still the best medicine so strive to be happy.

5. Hypothyroidism

This small gland just at the base of your neck contributes a lot to your body’s ability to convert energy. If the thyroid is underactive, chances are, you’ll have a slow metabolic rate and you feel sluggish – not to mention the risk of gaining weight. Get a blood test to see if you are a likely candidate.

6. Caffeine

Too much of anything can be a bad thing. Caffeine helps boost your concentration, but in large doses, it can make you feel jittery – thus, contributing to fatigue. You need to lessen your consumption of tea, coffee, soft drinks, or chocolate. Don’t stop all of a sudden so you won’t get withdrawal symptoms.

7. UTI

Or known as Urinary Tract Infection. This comes with a sense of urgency to urinate and a burning pain. Sometimes, you only feel fatigue. The best way to check is to have a urine test. If you’ve tested positive, you will be prescribed antibiotics.

8. Diabetes

Too much sugar in your blood can cause unexplainable fatigue. Ask your doctor to get you tested for diabetes to rule out the condition. Treatments include a total diet and lifestyle change, medications, and insulin therapy.

9. Dehydration

You are 70 percent water. That’s a fact! When your body is dehydrated, you lose the ability to concentrate and your system shuts down. The best way to check this is to look at the color of your urine. If it’s too dark, you need to drink more water. Sometimes, food cravings can be a sign that your body is thirsty.

10. Heart Disease

This silent killer strikes anytime, anywhere. If you feel tired doing the things you usually do, maybe, your heart is no longer up to the job. If you are having difficulty breathing or if you experience chest pains, seek medical help.

Other causes include working graveyard shifts, suffering food allergies, and having CFS or chronic fatigue syndrome. There is no one quick solution to fight fatigue and keep it at bay, or even reverse the body’s aging process. Yet, by having healthy choices and living a healthy lifestyle, you pump more energy into your body. Love Your Life!

As women reach the menopausal stage, estrogen levels drop and the body is subjected to the uncomfortable, intense feeling of heat known as Hot Flashes. Many complain about this and doctors have given these women estrogen replacement therapy. Still, there is no permanent cure to hot flashes and night sweats.

When your body experiences hot flashes, a sudden, intense heat sweeps over your face, neck, arm, torso, legs – or the entire body. There can be blotching or reddening and mild to intense sweat with all those heat. Hot flashes lasts from a few seconds to an hour, although there are rare cases when it exceeds an hour. Women experience hot flashes mostly at nights where estrogen levels drop. This is also known as night sweats. When a hot flash occurs, one can feel anxiety, tension, dizziness, heart palpitation, sleep disorder, depression, or headaches. You may feel you are totally out of control of your body.

Common Hot Flash Triggers

1. Foods high in acid content like citrus and tomatoes
2. Hot beverages
3. Caffeine drinks ( soda, coffee, tea )
4. White sugar
5. Hydrogenated or saturated fats
6. Summer or hot weather
7. Sauna, hot pool, hot tub, or hot spring bath
8. Cigarettes, tobacco, or marijuana
9. Intense sex
10. Spicy foods

Natural Remedies for Hot Flashes

1. Exercise

Walk, run, or do other exercises at least 30 minutes daily, but not before you go to sleep.

2. Avoid Your Triggers

Try your best to avoid any of the triggers listed above and have the discipline to make healthy choices and lifestyle habits.

3. Protect Yourself

Summer is the time of the year where you can experience hot flashes often. Try to wear cotton clothes that allow your skin to breathe and have a fan or air cooling system to cool down your body.

4. Dong Quai

A popular remedy for menopausal problems, this herb helps regulate hot flashes and relieve your emotional upset. Dong quai helps stabilize your blood vessels. Stop using this when your hot flash won’t subside.

5. Chaste Berry

This herb is famous for the proper regulation of the pitituary glands, helping regulate your hot flashes and dizziness. Considered as a slow-acting tonic, you can see results in 2-3 months time.

6. Black Cohosh

Popularly used by American Indians for relief of menstrual cramps and menopause, there are significant studies showing that it can help reduce hot flashes. Many also swear that it can help relieve the symptoms of hot flashes. Don’t use this if you experience menstrual flooding or if you’re pregnant. Also, caution must be taken by those who are taking estrogen supplements, birth control pills, sedatives, or blood pressure medicines.

7. Essential Oils

The essence of basil or thyme, when inhaled, may ease an onset of hot flashes. You may also rub your foot with it, use it for massage, or drop small amounts to your bath. Just make sure you choose 100% pure grade essential oils to get the best results.

Imagine yourself sleeping at the wee hours of night until you’re suddenly awakened with this burning need to move. You just feel so uncomfortable being still that only by walking, jumping, leaping, or kicking can give you relief. Welcome to the world of people with RLS, or commonly known as Restless Leg Syndrome.

This condition is actually caused by an irresistible need to move your legs during sleep or rest, when you are lying or sitting down. Movement temporarily eases the pain away. This is the reason why those suffering with RLS also have sleep problems. It’s just hard to sleep when your body wants to do the contrary. RLS occcurs mostly in women and most are diagnosed at the early age of 20. Having RLS can also be something that runs in the family and diagnosing it depends on the symptoms you experience. Usually, your doctor will run blood tests to rule out causes like iron deficiency, diabetes, nutrient deficiencies, or even kidney disease. Other casues can include nerve disorders, anemia, rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid problems, sleep apnea, narcolepsy, obesity, Parkinson’s disease, or stress.

Are There Any Natural Ways to Cure Restless Leg Syndrome?

If you suffer a mild symptom, there is absolutely help available for you. In severe cases, RLS can really interfere with your daily activities. You can try to:

1. Get Nutrients

You may take a diet or supplement rich in iron, Vitamin E and B12, Magnesium, Calcium, folate, or Zinc. Know that synthetic supplements don’t really work better than those found in whole foods.

2. Skip the Caffeine

From your favorite coffee blend, cigarette, tea, to energy drinks – you need to lessen or avoid anything that has caffeine. This substance can increase the jitter and can worsen your RLS. If you can’t stop taking energy drinks, opt for natural drinks that is organic and sugar-free.

3. Avoid Alcohol and Sugar Substitutes

Like caffeine, alcohol and sugar substitutes like Aspartame must be avoided when you are having an RLS attack since it can worsen the discomfort or pain.

4. Have a Healthy Diet

Stock up on whole grains, nuts, seeds, fresh fruits, vegetables and fish. If possible, avoid anything with high fructose corn syrup.

5. Acupuncture

This ancient Chinese therapy is said to work wonders on those with restless legs. Certain parts of your body will be stimulated to ease your discomfort.

6. Chiropractic Care

Visit a licensed chiropractor to help you with your pelvic instability. You will be recommended strengthening and leg stretching exercises.

7. Homeopathy

A well-known homeopathic cure for RLS is called Astralagus Membranaceous, used in traditional Chinese medicine to help absorb iron in your body and aid in proper blood circulation. You may also try Butcher’s Broom to relieve discomfort and pain, or Horse Chestnut to help keep blood flowing smoothly through your legs.

Muscle spasms, cramps, and discomfort of the legs are not a laughing matter and you need to get yourself checked. One inexpensive way of relieving your tired legs is to give it a warm soak of water sprinkled with Epsom salt. Touch therapy can also help. Your feet perhaps are the most abused part of your body and it is important to give it a rest and some pampering whenever you can. Love Your Feet!
