There are recent controversies on many Hollywood stars getting photo-shopped so blatantly that it is not giving a positive message to plenty of women out there. The editorial department of many glossy magazines may defend their actions by stating that the readers are fully aware that these images are retouched. But, does it give the same positive body image that women needs to get? This is a question that is still waiting for an answer.

Glamour can come at a touch of a pixel, correcting every flaw with simple and powerful digital editing tools available out there. The problem with this is that it gives a negative implication on what’s supposed to be hot and in nowadays. For this, we hear a lot of stories where many young women are depriving themselves of life-sustaining foods that eventually led to many eating disorders, or worst, death. There are just too many anorexic women than all those thin women of the previous centuries combined. Women are literally starving themselves to pay for the price of a false image of beauty and perfection that are shown everywhere.

When photo retouching had become so ubiquitous that we are compelled to have an obsessive desire for mega-perfection, it just feeds our very hunger to achieve what cannot be had. For this, many women feel simply ugly when they stare at a mirror, or have developed unusual fears of looking at themselves. All we see today is imperfection that led to a competitive craze that becomes unhealthy… for many are truly dying to be thin.

For those who are suffering a poor image of themselves, here are helpful tips on bringing that feel-good feeling which will help you have a healthy body image:

1. Love Yourself

There’s no such thing as powerful as truly appreciating who and what you are. If you’re optimistic about you, there’s no reason that a million glossy covers of fake images can threaten this bubble of positive self-image protecting you. If you don’t like you, who will?

2. Wear What You Want

To be comfortable with your body means to wear clothing that are comfortable as well. There are many stylish clothes out there that can enhance your figure, if you’re the curvy type. Don’t just hide under a baggy shirt. Enhance your assets!

3. Ditch the Scale – For Good!

Weighing yourself over and over won’t simply make you feel good. Remember that when you are in a weight loss program, fats lost can be replaced with muscles and you may not see that the scale is going down because of this.

4. Pamper Your Body

If your budget can afford it, you can either have a spa treatment, or buy self-pampering kits where you can pamper yourself at the comforts of your own home. Not only will you feel good about yourself, but it can help you relax as well.

5. Be Active

Move and stay on the go with exercises or hobbies you truly enjoy. When your body is active, you release Endorphins that will make you feel happy about life and yourself. If the outdoors are not for you, you can choose simple ways to stay fit like Yoga, Pilates, or even Taichi. You can even be adventurous and try your skills at street dancing, pole dancing, or even belly dancing for exercise. A simple walk to work will keep you fit, saving you precious bucks as well.

6. Choose Healthy

If you love yourself, you will only choose products that are naturally healthy and safe for you. Your health is your very wealth… and you need to stay healthy to live the life of your dreams. Spare a budget for organic, safe, and effective solutions that will bring you healing, minus the many health risks that synthetic options have. Be a smart shopper!

There is nothing wrong with doing slight alterations to an image to make it look pleasing, but when the line is drawn between what’s real and what’s not – any practical woman who loves herself doesn’t need all those glamorous magazines, advertisements, and infomercials to tell her otherwise. You are truly beautiful!
