Is chronic fatigue just a mind set or is there something really wrong with your body? Think about it.

Once known as the Yuppie Flu, we are hearing about this epidemic known to have afflicted the working class in the large metropolis: CFS or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

I had a colleague at work who had been granted a week’s worth of vacation due to CFS, when everyone of us is dying to take a break from work anytime soon. I wonder if she had just been faking it? Or was it for real?

There are so many factors leading to chronic fatigue – which is usually an unexplainable tiredness over a very long period of time. It’s a tough world we live in and there’s just too many things to do with so very little time.

Normally, people diagnosed with CFS experience overwhelming stress that lasts for six months or more. Symptoms include depression, anxiety, insomnia and pain. In its extreme form, it can lead to rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and fibromyalgia.

The term Dog-Tired is just not enough to describe CFS. Since it mimics other diseases, it may not be diagnosed correctly. There were even reports when a worker would suddenly collapse to his last breath – due to severe exhaustion.

Work is important in paying for our basic needs, but when it becomes a killer, then one must think twice. There are a lot of factors contributing to stress at work. It can be the routine job, the office politics, the pay, the boss or everything. Work must be something you really love to do most. It is always important to schedule one’s life to make it a balance between work and play. Exercise, healthy diet and good amount of rest helps in the process. Drinking energy drink to boost your performance is fine, as long as it fires you up – naturally.

Love your body. Work can always wait, but you only live once here on Earth. Enjoy it while you can!
