What great way to stay lean and healthy as a family but this summer time! Our busy schedules and hectic lifestyle have spawn unhealthy living habits that start at the very center of our homes. Instead of getting physically active out there, families today have evolved their lives around their TV and couch. Gone were the days when the family go out for a camping trip or a nice fun run. Is there still hope?

Physical fitness is very important as it keeps your body moving, improving your overall stamina, flexibility and strength. Having a sedentary lifestyle exposes you to the risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or high blood pressure – not to mention obesity. Being inactive for a long period of time can really do damage to your body and mind. Experts suggest that even 30 minutes of physical activity during the day can improve your health and it doesn’t have to mean costly visits to the gym.

How to Stay Fit and Healthy as a Family

1. Find an Activity that You’ll All Love

The biggest challenge here is to have a fun activity that the whole family can enjoy, from kids to adults. This summer, you can book your schedule for swimming, sailing, camping, hiking, or joining a fun run. Anything that keeps you moving!

2. Give Your Home a DIY

Involve your kids in a makeover of your home this summer by assigning them fun and easy-to-do household chores. You may try redecorating your home or arranging your lawn.

3. Go Outdoors

Nothing beats a great time outdoors, where even a 30-minute walk can do wonders. You and your family need fresh air and sunshine that will keep you motivated to get physical. Just make sure you have enough sun protection and that you take all precautions against heat stroke and dehydration.

4. Put a Limit

There’s nothing wrong with spending time in front of the PC or the TV, just make sure you have more time getting physical out there. Ideal time would be a maximum of two hours a day spent on these.

5. Keep It Fun

Sometimes, boredom can get in the way of getting fit and that’s why it is important to talk to your family on the activities you would all love doing. By having variety, you all get motivated to stay active, as well as helping you make a stronger family bonding time.

Getting fit is just one side of the fitness story. You need to maintain your healthy choices by eating the right foods and having a healthy lifestyle too. As parents, being a role model to your children will count a lot in how they will value a healthy living in the long run. Have Fun!

When studies show that your usual gym member quits after six months of having enrolled in a program, one can only wonder: Do exercises really work? Just because they don’t see results with such a little time they spend working out doesn’t mean you have to stop yours as well. The question should be: Are they really doing it right? You may be surprised to know that many people are doing the same mistakes over and over, simply because they are not aware of it.

All those huff’n and puff’n won’t do you any good in your cardio workouts, specially when the very fitness routine you do stops you from losing weight. Just because you’re doing 30 minutes of exercise each day doesn’t mean you automatically lose weight. Instead, you might try to change your fitness program and focus those crucial thirty minutes in doing it right. So, what’s stopping you from losing weight?

Top 10 Mistakes You Should Avoid When Doing A Work Out

1. Focusing on Quantity

If you look at those people doing their reps in the gym, can you point out who is doing a quality workout? Just because you are comfortable repeating your fitness routines doesn’t mean you will get better results in your workout. You need to really focus in each movement you make so you can challenge your strength and aerobic skills.

2. Too Much Workout

Many overestimate the amount they need and the time they have to do their workout routines. There is also a myth of exercising at a moderate pace for 30 minutes, where they believe that they have burned a lot of calories. It’s not that easy. Exercises do burn calories — over time. Consistently doing so is the best way for you to burn fat and lose weight.

3. Being In Denial

Not everyone who says they are health-conscious will be honest enough to accept just how much of good food they are eating each day. Sometimes, one can lose track of the food he or she eats, which can hinder those weight loss goals. Keep a diary with you where you can track your food and calorie intake.

4. Doing the Wrong Exercise

What’s worse than a fitness routine is doing the wrong one. You can watch all the videos you want, but unless you write down your goals clearly and ask for the guidance of a professional trainer, you might as well be joining the name game. There are even exercises that can truly be bad for you, specially if you have a special health condition.

5. Doing the Same Old Thing

Imagine eating sweet potatoes. It can be healthy. Now, imagine eating it for a month or two. What can be a healthy habit can turn sour. The same thing goes with exercise. You need variety to keep you motivated. Doing the same type of fitness routine may become so comfy that you won’t be challenged anymore to do endurance exercises. There is just no challenge.

6. Doing It Wrong

You may do an exercise that’s great for you, but if you’re not aware of the proper posture while doing a rep, you might as well as injure yourself. The last thing you want is leave the gym with sore muscles or worst, visit the nearest ER. To learn properly, get the help of a professional trainer to guide you at first.

7. Doing Exercises – Without Drinking Water

Don’t ever hit the gym parched or you will have a hard time doing your fitness routines. If you are not properly hydrated, your body and mind won’t function well during an exercise. You will feel tired faster which may stop you from finishing your workout. Before you do one, drink 15 ounces of water at least two hours before your routine.

8. Addicted to Scale

Anyone of us who tried to lose weight will always be hooked on – weighing scales, and most often, there is disappointment. Your body weight may not move as much as a scale down since when your body loses fats, muscles form in place. Instead, try tracking your heart rate, cholesterol levels, or blood pressure. You can try investing in a heart rate monitor which helps you track the number of calories you have burned. Don’t just trust those estimates given by gym machines.

9. Reading

Ever seen anyone reading a book while running on a treadmill? It just looks ridiculous. Reading can be fun if you enjoy it, but it can also distract you from doing a high-intensity workout. By listening to upbeat music instead on your portable music player, you keep up with the pace, helping you burn 15 times more calories than when you’re flipping those glossy pages.

10. Being Surreal

You need to set realistic goals that you can achieve, which can fit in perfectly with your time and weight loss goals. Be honest with what you can do and have the discipline to follow your exercise goals.

If you love yourself, you need to make sure that you live life to the max – by choosing only those natural, healthy choices, a healthy lifestyle, and a dedication to having a regular physical exercise. Have the common sense to avoid these mistakes and you will have the best days of your lives – guaranteed!

When it comes to getting on the move and being fit with doing exercises, the excuse is truly limitless. There simply is a reason why you would prefer to do something else than getting a good sweat from all those stretching, toning, and cardio-pumping moves. When exercise becomes something you dread, it is high time to bring back the fun with these simple, easy-to-follow ways:

1. Find an Exercise Buddy

Sometimes, working out with a friend can be fun and something you can look forward to each day. You may compare fitness goals and notes with that person, and have a healthy competition on achieving your weight loss goal.

2. Join a Group

Meeting new people can motivate you to pick up the pace and keep moving on your very best. There is simply a big difference between watching an instructional exercise DVD and having a live instructor gauge you in your every move. You may also choose a team sport where you can interact with others.

3. Do Something You Love

If the usual gym workout and aerobics is wearing down on you, immerse yourself in outdoor activities that you love, which will keep you fit as well. You may also participate in indoor sports, if the outdoors is not your cup of tea. You may do hiking, biking, swimming, and many more. Just make sure you love doing these things.

4. Pump Up the Volume

The next time you hit the gym, you may plug in to your favorite upbeat music or audio book while doing your usual rounds on the treadmill or stationary bike. You may program yourself to listen to a great collection of music and books each time you exercise, making the activity something to look forward to.

5. Shop for Sporty Fashion

From shoes to shirts, you can always get motivated when you take the time to put your sporty-fashion sense forward. Think of the word ‘comfort’ when shopping for your brand new apparel and gears.

6. Choose Variety

Normally, boredom sets in when you do the same moves each day, making it a part of your daily routine. Instead, you may mix your exercise regime each day, or take alternative classes on fitness sessions you want like having a Pilates this week and Belly Dancing in the consecutive week.

7. Stop Looking at Your Weighing Scale

Instead of checking out how many pounds you have lost, measure your vital statistics and see the huge difference. Sometimes, you still weigh the same and this is because as you started losing fats, you are replacing them with muscles. A cheap, tape measure can help you see your progress through a period of time.

8. Try Multi-Tasking

There are gyms that let you watch TV or video when you are doing your workout. A little bit of distraction while running on a treadmill can be good, specially when you are going to exercise in a couple of minutes. The next time you go for a run, you’ll always be looking forward to watching the next TV series you’ve been wanting to watch.

9. Relax and Meditate

When you cool down for a few minutes of rest, take this advantage to enter deep relaxation by lying on the floor and closing your eyes. This will help you realize the exhilarating rewards of doing an exercise, making you come back for more.

There are simply plenty of options that you can take in making exercise a fun-filled activity. Remember that exercise doesn’t only keep your body toned, but it also makes you feel confident and happy with the release of energy from within. When you try things you have never imagined, just for the sake of exercise, you allow yourself to take control of your health, coupled with natural and healthier choices – you can never go wrong in your health goals. We all know that when done right, exercise can give us tremendous health benefits that will reduce our risk from cancer and many types of serious diseases. Just seek a professional advice if you suffer any chronic condition, before you engage yourself in a new physical activity. Love Your Moves!

An Innovative Concept on Putting Fun to Usual Things:
