The simple joy of flipping through the pages of your favorite book, the smell of the pages filling your being, makes reading an indulgence that people cannot resist. Even with the rise of technology offering gadgets that can carry hundreds of your favorite titles in a tiny, compact hand-held that fits in your palm, the intimate experience with a book is still something that many finds pleasurable. The feel of the pages, the aroma of it, makes people keep on reading for more.

When a person is reading a book, he or she is at her own solitary time, in a space created inside her mind. The possibilities are limitless, conquering places where the physical body cannot journey to. For this reason, books have been used as part of the healing process through Bibliotherapy.

Bibliotherapy closes the gap between a patient suffering emotional distress and their health care practitioner. Since those in psychotherapy don’t open up their emotions that quickly, or trust easily, it is here where books can help. Many success stories were reported for people who had been suffering stress, phobia, eating disorders, body image problems, anxiety, and mood disorders. Books can help these sufferers relax and feel good about themselves and life in general.

When a person suffering from anxiety gets inspiration from a self-help book, that person is taking responsibility over his/her worries, making self-treatment possible, without an over-dependence in prescription medications. Reading a book to heal can also create a better bonding with the patient and the therapist through reading activities, home works, and interaction. Other than feeling good with the help of a book, the habit of reading is also given an emphasis. This is great specially for children who finds reading a boring thing to do.

Although reading is not for everyone, like those who suffer psychosis, dyslexia, and limited mental abilities, in general, reading can simply be fun. When one reads, a new world of reality emerges, making one feel free to explore the facets of the unknown.. without fear. For this reason, bibliotherapy brings out those negative thoughts and feelings deeply buried in a person’s psyche and make him or her face these fears in the open. Books also give a sense of privacy, unlike talking to a person about your ordeal. There are books that make you laugh, cry, or shudder. Truly, books can move us mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Bibliotherapy provides insight and realistic solutions to life’s many problems. However, one may run the risk of misapplying what was read. In the long run, books help you become self-reliant on living your life on the bright side, without falling back to your old self. When you do, you can always pick up that book and find your comfort. Remember that when the mind is at ease, the body will also feel at ease. Books are not only your natural means of healing, but it is also a source of something priceless: Wisdom. Read Well & Feel Better!

No time to relax? You are not alone. In fact, majority of today’s population complain from lack of time solely devoted to a peaceful getaway into the healing haven of relaxation. In fact, many of us feel so over-burdened with our everyday lives, of endless appointments and hectic schedules, making us stretch ourselves further into a breaking point of chronic fatigue and the incessant complaint of feeling too drained to live the life of our dreams each day.

Relaxation is now considered a luxury, made for only those who can afford to spend for it. For the rest, it is a constant struggle to have a dream of stress-free living, even for a day. Combine this with a poor diet and bad lifestyle choices – you have now a recipe for catastrophe. If machines can break, so can the human body. Without proper rest, you are jeopardizing your very life to the risks of health issues caused by stress. When the body and mind is not at ease, you are inviting a host for disease.

Before you think twice about spending time for a blissful rest, you must accept that it is not a sin to do so. Many people feel guilty spending time on relaxation when they could have spend it on other “more important” things. This is a fallacy. Spending time on yourself must be the top priority you have, on top of other things. You can set a few hours a day for relaxation, or schedule it during weekends and those time when you’re off from work. Always remember that you’re doing yourself a favor in doing so and all you need is proper time management. Besides, a well-rested mind and body will yield to a more productive you.

If you’re feeling that life is dragging you down the drain, here are great ways to relax without spending a fortune:

1. Give more love to yourself. You must first believe that you deserve a break.
2. When you wake up, savor the first 5 minutes and do absolutely nothing. Just close your eyes and meditate, temporarily shutting off all worries for the day.
3. Listen to revitalizing music after you wake up.. and relaxing tunes just before you go to bed. If you can find Binaural Music, that would be great to aid you in your healing, energizing, and relaxing process.
4. Clean out all the clutter in your life – from a messy bedroom, a cluttered inbox, to the stacks of papers and files in your work station. There are many unnecessary things that you need to do away it, and which do not deserve your valuable time and attention.
5. Be Organized. When everything is running smoothly, you’ll have less time to worry.
6. Focus your energy positively. Anger is not only a waste of your precious time, but it is also bad for your heart. In fact, it can be very fatal and too much anger can literally kill.
7. Put some humor into your life. If you have been down lately, you can get a quick laughing fix from a funny flick, a funny joke from an online humor site, or a comedy stunt from a local comedy bar downtown.
8. Be inspired with a hobby you love, whether it is journal writing, crafting, painting, or knitting. Not only will you love the time spent in relaxing through your favorite craft, but you can also channel your creativity into something more productive.
9. Pamper yourself. All those hard work will be put to waste if you don’t treat yourself the way you deserve it. It doesn’t have to be luxurious. You can just spend a night relaxing in the sweet scent of your warm bubble bath, or have a relaxing massage in your favorite spa.
10. Stretch your way through yoga, pilates, or tai chi and get the blood pumping through your body. These exercises can help you relax through proper breathing techniques, combined with meditation and muscle toning.

There is no reason why you shouldn’t spend a quality time for yourself. You can even share this quality time with your loved ones, making you spend better bonding moments. Relaxation can mean different things to many people, and it can be as simple as having a walk in the park to get away from all the things that put stress – even for a moment. Don’t forget that a peaceful and happy mind means having a healthy body to reach your goals and live life to the max.. the way life is meant to be lived.

Recently, there is a significant rise in the number of people who are suffering mental stress due to the worsening economic condition that has spread like a pandemic throughout the globe. Many are suffering serious mental breakdown from all of these turmoil going on and there is indeed a need for an immediate help. What do you do if you’re among them and you just don’t have the time or luxury to get an hour of counseling in your local mental health care practitioner’s office?

The answer lies closely with just a touch of a mouse click: Online Psychotherapy. Many are finding this alternative much more convenient and affordable than having to go all the way through the time-tested traditional process. There is also a great deal of anonymity, especially if you don’t want to be caught going your way to your shrink’s office, making you avoid embarrassing questions from friends or colleagues at work.

Being curious on this type of therapy, I’ve scoured the web to search for more info. I’ve found out a news made by Medical News Today that reported on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT, which seems to be efficient when delivered online by a therapist – but, in real-time. This made me think of chatting with your friends using instant messenger tools out there. It is like chatting to a virtual friend who is ready to listen to you ( or maybe, until the timer is up and you need to reload for another hour or two ).

Depression is not a laughing matter and in most cases, a trained professional is needed to make careful analysis or recommendation. Why can’t you just talk to a friend? This can work if you’re feeling just blue for a moment and you need the comfort of a friend. But being clinically depressed is a different thing. You can be a danger to others as well as to yourself, and for this, a professional can help you cope up and guide you on your journey to healing.

Online psychotherapy may be a real challenge to conventions, and many are dreading the rise of fraudsters. Some are not yet convinced on its effectiveness and many will dispute that having a session in real-time gives better results due to the fact that one can evaluate a person better in real-time, especially when they’re working on non-verbal clues. The last thing someone may want is to know that he or she is routed to a call center, that his or her call is on queue, which might make him or her feel simply – ignored. You must have experienced being on hold for the nth times when you have something important to ask or say, and the feeling it gives is always unpleasant, even with the sound of soothing music while you wait.

What are the Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Therapy?

PROS:

1. Convenience
2. Affordability
3. Anonymity
4. Physical Safety

CONS:

1. Indefinite Results
2. Miscommunication ( through ineffective typed or written messages )
3. Limited Visual Cues ( in case of video chat )
4. Risk of Exposure to Frauds or Malpractice

In the end, when it comes to human relationship, they are not just some shareware you can download in your PC. The internet can give you the speed of access to services you need, but it cannot replace real-time presence. Besides, many are displaying a totally different personality in cyber space, which are quite different from who they really are for real. The multi-sensory experience of traditional therapies are still far from being replicated, and we can only hope to turn into the best, natural solution in fighting off stress from our lives – for good.

Our modern lives have been so much entwined with techie gadgets and gears that it seems impossible to live without them even for a day. In fact, we spend too much time with them, from the moment we open our eyes and watch hours of news in front of our TV, the hours of work we spend using our desktops and laptops, to that favorite flick we see before taking our good night sleep. Technology is now an essential part of our lives, bringing us the convenience… and the inconveniences.

We now come face to face with a word never before heard in centuries: STRESS. Hours of being glued in front of a box showing us stuff for our business and leisure have given a rise to the number of mind-boggling illnesses that can make any doctor scratch his head. From Chronic Fatigue Syndrome to Repetitive Strain Injury, our bodies are catapulted into this unexplainable feeling of tiredness: migraines, headaches, muscle pains, vision problems, depression, and the inability to concentrate on the task at hand. We can only drink as many pills as we want, but as long as our lives depend on these amazing products of the innovative world, we can never really have a permanent cure.

Your eyes are the most important part of your connection to the visual world. Without it, you’ll be living in a world of darkness. The eyes are also the most abused, and too much staring into something is definitely not good for you. There are natural ways for you to care for your vision, without sorting to synthetic solutions.

How to Care for Your Eyes and Avoid Strain:

1. Do Eye Exercises if you can. Like your body, your eye muscles need some tender, loving stretch.

2. Look for a natural herb called Eyebright. You can boil water and place a few teaspoons of this herb. Allow the liquid to cool before soaking a cloth and applying them to your closed eyes. The herb’s anti-inflammatory property can help you feel better.

3. Love Your Berries: Bilberry, Cranberry, Blueberry, and Huckleberry are all great for treating eye problems and strengthening your eyes’ capillaries.

4. Chamomile Tea Bag Therapy works great on tired eyes. You can brew and enjoy a sip while having your eyes rested.

5. If you can find a Goldenseal, you can make it into an eye compress. This can help you get rid of bloodshot eyes.

6. Don’t miss out on VITAMIN A – your eyes’ best friend. This means loving your veggies like carrots, tomatoes, spinach, lettuce, and cabbage. You may take vitamin A supplements as well.

At the end of a stressful day, always find time to relax and close your eyes to the beauty of sweet and natural healing that’s great for you.
Music may be one of the universal language that can be both inspiring and destructive, depending on the genre you're listening to. Fight of stress and anxiety with music.

If you’re suffering anxiety and stress, know that you are not alone. With the financial crisis going on a global scale, plus, the onset of the flu pandemic, we can only worry more. There are so many pain relievers out there that will take out the pain from migraine. What an instant relief, and before we know it – we become addicted to these little miracle pills.

Surely, there are many alternative ways in feeling much better and becoming healthier: from healthy diets, exercises, meditation techniques, aromatherapy, to the very music you listen to. Healing from music may be frowned at by some people who have an innate dislike for classical masterpieces like those of Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, and many others.

There are innovative ways in getting relief from music therapy. In fact, modern sound therapy is not only relaxing, but it is infused with alpha wave frequencies that are simply soothing. You may not hear it, but your brains can feel it. As defined by the American Music Therapy Association, Music Therapy is an established healthcare profession that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals of all ages. Music therapy improves the quality of life for persons who are well and meets the needs of children and adults with disabilities or illnesses.

Music doesn’t only heighten your senses, but it can help your mind focus and stay sharp. Rhythm has a calming effect that can promote relaxation and healing, down to the cellular level. When you’re worry-free, your body feels like floating in cloud nine. Such wonderful positive feeling is a gift that you can enjoy.

Here are Tips on How to Get the Most Out of Your Music Therapy:

1. Choose the right music that makes you feel calm and make sure you will love listening to it.

2. Play music that will gradually lift up your spirits, especially when you’re feeling depressed.

3. You can choose inspirational or motivational music with a speaker who is guiding you on how to reach a deep state of relaxation.

4. Make sure you’re well-prepared to listen. This means you are in a comfortable place and clothing, minus the outside distraction.

5. Listen – without Interruption!

6. Don’t just listen to the music, but feel it. Let the sound fill the very core of your being. Imagine energy filling you with each beat, reaching your very cells, healing every damage.

7. Pause and bask in moments of silence after having listened to a great piece.

8. Keep an inspirational journal where you can write your thoughts and feelings after a profound, relaxing session with sound.

Always remember that when you feel good, your body will feel the same. Let the power of music heal you from within.

Love Music… Love Health..

Love is more than just that familiar reggae beat sung by Bob Marley, or is it the all too famous cause that a protagonist in the film would fight for. There is more to love than just a beating of the heart, or two, or more… and there is a reason why many have called it the most powerful force in the whole universe. Love is one of the purest form of energy, sometimes misunderstood, and most often veiled in mystery.

If you will observe, most of the health disorders people are suffering today are more than skin deep ( or cells, for that matter ). The human emotions are so complex it can carry us in a whirlwind if we loose control of them all. Negative thoughts and feelings have mostly been linked to sickness in the body. The wise men and women from the ancient times have referred to the sickness of the body as the sickness of the soul. The body, being the vessel of the soul, becomes sick when a person is feeling all the negative energies of fears, doubts, worries, anger, and depression. There are many miracle stories, unexplained, where one is fully-recovered from terminal diseases like cancer – just with a dose of positivity and love.

This is not to undermine the practice of medical health, but, the mind has a powerful force that can order the body to heal. Medicine today focuses on the physical aspects of sickness – from vaccines, pills, surgery, viruses, genes, and so on. One’s well-being doesn’t only depend on the physical aspect, but a combination of all that makes up a person, which includes thoughts and emotions.

To most health practitioners, focus has always been on diet, exercise, and healthy lifestyle – but seldom do we hear the focus on love and intimacy. Everything is rooted in love. If a person loves him or herself, he or she will do what’s best to make sure of living a healthy life lived to the fullest. It is also love that brings harmony from which the physical plane cannot fully comprehend, bringing all four together: the body, heart, mind, and soul.

One aspect cannot be fully healthy than the rest. A sound person is a very fortunate person indeed, having found the key to a totally harmonious well-being. Nobody can be this perfect, but throughout history, there are a few known men and women who have found their inner peace.

The value of science may mean a powerful way of understanding the way of things, to quantify and analyze. Just because something is intangible doesn’t mean that experiences from it is diminished in value. In fact, there are many people who have joined groups and sessions of love therapy and have found profound result.

Therefore, the author of this article would say, don’t underestimate the healing powers of love… which can lead you to a better health, a better well-being, and perhaps, a better person shall be reborn. Love, transformed into healing art, will always bring the most amazing surprise in your health. So, start the affirmation today and just feel truly loved. When you feel good, your body will reflect that feeling, and you’ll be healthy – naturally.

I seem to be confused with herbal remedy and homeopathic treatment. Only with a bit of a research have I found out the difference between the two. For example, in herbal remedy, you use onion for its antioxidant healing properties that work well against cold and flu. On the other hand, you use onions in homeopathy to treat hay fever because the very scent of onion can produce symptoms similar to the illness.

In simple terms, Homeopathy (“home-ee-AH-pah-thy”) is a form of healing where like begets like. It is a form of healing where substance that produces the sickness you experience is diluted into extremely small doses, believing it to hold the key to your healing. Many people have claimed to be cured from this type of treatment, thanks to its first discovery by the genius of Samuel Hahnemann – a physician, chemist, and linguist who lived in Germany in the late 1700s.

While the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine is supporting a number of studies in this area, there are many controversies surrounding this therapy that threatens to wipe it off in a matter of years. Homeopathy is still being studied for treatment of chronic fatigue, pain, cancer, and certain disorders of the brain.

There are still debates on the effectiveness of this healing, since the compounds used and diluted were said to lost its potency and that patients are cured by the so-called placebo effect.

With the fall of homeopathy… means the loss of prominent homeopaths who had painstakingly made studies on the practice of homeopathy over conventional medicine. Are we going to see an end of the World Homeopathy Awareness Week in a few years to come?

The National Center for Homeopathy can give you all the info you need to know, which you might find helpful. Like conventional cure, there is a plus and a minus side to it all. One clouded area of homeopathy is that it takes longer than the usual over-the-counter pill. No one therapy suits all. It depends on the sufferer to find balance and cure.

There are a few cases when people feel more ill and it is best to seek your health care provider before and after using this treatment. What causes people to raise an eyebrow and doubt this form of healing is the idea that which causes illness can also cure. It’s like getting rid of snake poison..with snake venom. Plus, ultra high dilutions can render the cure – useless.

It is the author’s belief, though, that people should still be given the choice to find their own natural healing. It doesn’t mean replacing professional medical advice. It just means finding the best alternative that works best.

Be Healthy! Choose Wisely!

Here’s a hilarious parody on Homeopathy that best describes how people scrutinize this form of healing:

The ancient spirit religion have always known that there are energies within and without our bodies that are connected to the whole cosmic energy that is often called god, or the divine presence. Every living thing is a part of this energy web that spins throughout the centuries, giving life and sustaining it for eons to come.

I had been a skeptic myself about using energy for healing. Being a sufferer of chronic ( and unexplainable ) pain, I have tried all those over-the-counter pills, felt instant relief, only to be plagued again and taken by surprise by another muscle ache. It can be mild to severe at times and yes, it is affecting the way I have been living my life – personal and work.

This is not to say that people should stop seeking medications. I am just among a few who wanted an alternative that will make me free from popping up a pill. Out of luck, I then tried my hands on energy healing. I cannot explain it, but it did wonders for me.

Is it because my mind is receptive to the idea of this form of healing? Is it just a placebo effect? There have been a documentary on the practice of energy healing, that we are all made of energy, and that each of us has some kind of electro-magnetic field. When the body is ill, the energy is weak. It is the healer’s task to restore this energy and balance to make a person well.

Are there scientific evidence involving energy healing? Science has always considered what it cannot define as a case of hoodoo. There has always been a thin line between conventional and alternative therapies. There have been some studies made on the subject of energy and healing.

In the end, it is you, who will make the choice for your body’s healing. It is the idea that we are all bound to a life force that makes energy healing a unique wisdom and practice in a league of its own. With today’s stressful and fast-paced living, there are many diseases rising that have never been heard of in the last century.

When the body is ill, there is great unbalance. There are many factors why the body is sick… and it can be something spiritual, something to do with your Qi, your Chakra, and so on. For now, research is still being made on the significance of energy healing in restoring one’s health – and energy. Just because something cannot be explained quantitatively doesn’t mean that it is a hoax. I had always been an advocate of anything that promotes natural health and all I can tell you is:

” There’s no harm in trying .. “

There are many mysteries about the human brain that we cannot fully understand. The power of the human mind to heal the body can be tapped by a harmless, placebo pill.

I remember being a sickly child and having my parents tell me to hush, kiss me on the forehead, and say everything is going to be fine. It was the warmest feeling of care I could remember and it somehow gave me an invisible shield of protection that made me feel better the next day. Is this some kind of magic?

For the same reason, doctors are giving patients placebo pills to make the mind believe that these miracle pills will cure them. The most fascinating thing is that it works in most cases, and there are even reports of people feeling relief from arthritis, ulcers, herpes, and even cancer – just because of a simple sugar pill.

They call this the placebo effect – when someone is treated with a medication that has no therapeutic value. The patient believes that it is going to work, making them respond better to these pills than other treatments. Indigenous tribes have been using this form of healing in objects and rituals. Even those over-the-counter drug with no therapeutic claim can give the same placebo effect.

In short, placebo effect is the mystery that we don’t know about the human brain. Science says that we are only using a small portion of its capacity and there are hidden powers still. Maybe, one of these powers is the capacity to regenerate living cells like some sci-fi flick.

A small experiment had been made on tricking the mind of a person with allergy. It’s amazing how the patient’s body have reacted to the idea of being exposed to allergens that triggered an allergic reaction, when the truth is, it never happened in reality at all. This tells us a lot about our power to control everything in our body.

The question now is: Are Placebo Pills Ethical?

Giving care is good, but giving placebo pills are deceptive. Why would parents want to give their children sugar pills? This will give a wrong impression on the value of medicine. Parents must be wise to use them on their kids, or they might run into a serious case of misdiagnosis. In a personal point of view, doctors should advise patients to live a healthy, natural lifestyle instead of giving people placebo pills. What makes me wonder is the number of people out there who find relief in popping up a pill.

The mind is a very powerful tool that you can use for you to live your life to the fullest. Knowing that you have the power to be who you will to be – can be a terrifying realization. There are surely positive ways for you to benefit from it, to live healthy and worry-free.
