This condition begins in the childhood or teenage years, from ages 8 to 14.  When the eyeballs can&#8217;t have light rays focused on the front of its retina, then, nearsightedness happens.  Even if treatment cannot change the course of this condition, it is important to have this detected as early as possible.<span id="more-947"></span></p>
<p>Many people with perfect vision may tend to take their eye health for granted.  The eyes are our ticket to the visual world.  Can you imagine yourself living in a world of darkness?  It&#8217;s very easy to neglect your eyes and here&#8217;s a list on how you can keep it healthy.</p>
<p><strong>Six Ways in Having Healthy Eyes</strong></p>
<p><strong>1.  Have a Consultation</strong></p>
<p>It&#8217;s important to have your eye checked each year to see if you have any vision problems.  Don&#8217;t ignore headaches as they may be a sign of vision problems.  Also, make sure you get the right type of eyeglasses or contact lenses since using the wrong one can affect your eye health.</p>
<p><strong>2.  Use Sunglasses</strong></p>
<p>We put sun block on our skin, but we forget to put protection on our eyes.  Use sunglasses with UV protection since your eye sight can easily deteriorate with too much sun exposure.  Darker lenses don&#8217;t really guarantee better protection.  You need to check the level of protection by getting a high category number on your sunnies ( 4 is the best ).  Even if the sky is cloudy, wear your sunglasses.</p>
<p><strong>3.  Eat Healthy</strong></p>
<p>You are what you eat and there are foods that aid in giving you a healthier eyesight.  Indulge in foods rich in Vitamins C, A, E, folic acid, selenium, or zinc.  These are good for your eyes.  You may also take natural supplements to keep your eyes healthy.</p>
<p><strong>4.  Good Lighting</strong></p>
<p>Poor lighting can put eye strain to your eyes.  If you&#8217;re working on a computer all day, make sure that you get the best light in your work space.  Adjust the brightness of your laptop or put a shield over your desktop pc&#8217;s monitor.  If you&#8217;re watching TV, make sure to keep your distance at least 3 meters away.  Blink frequently.</p>

<p>If your eyes are tired, simply take a break.  Close your eyes and breathe.  You can do eye yoga exercises to relieve your tired eyes after working long hours in your computer.</p>

<p>Women should be careful when using eye makeup as it can irritate the eyes.  Make sure to get those that are organic and free from harmful chemicals.  Replace your mascara or eye makeup every 2-3 months, or when it smells weird.  If your mascara touched your contact lens, rinse it as well.</p>

It is only when you close them to the ether of sleep that you give it a well-deserved break.  It doesn&#8217;t have to be this way everyday.  You can do your part in keeping your eyes healthy in just a matter of days.  When you care for your eyes, you care for the very part that connects you to your visual world.  <em>Have you ever tried groping your way out of the dark? </em> It is a blessing that you see each day in thousands of colorful pixels. <span id="more-681"></span></p>
<p><strong>How Can You Maintain a Healthy Eyesight?</strong></p>
<p>If you have been experiencing eye sore, redness, or headache, it is best to check with your eye specialist and get the real cause of your eye problems.  You can also care for your eyes by:</p>
<p>1.  Having your eyes checked yearly to see if your vision is still a perfect 20/20.  Know that uncorrected vision problems can progress in time and you need to wear either a prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses, so you won&#8217;t have headaches.</p>
<p>2.  Use high quality contact lenses that are safe, which allows more oxygen to pass through your eyes.  Do wear sunglasses in the summer to protect your eyes against harmful UV rays.  You can also choose special lenses that will reduce glare, specially when you&#8217;re working long hours in front of the pc.  Always know how to protect your lenses from wear and tear.</p>
<p>3.  Make sure you are working and reading under good lighting.  Poor light can cause eyestrain and too much brightness can do damage as well.</p>
<p>4.  Eat foods that will keep your eye sight naturally healthy.  Go for foods rich in Vitamins A, C, E, selenium, zinc, and folic acid.  Love your apples, grapes, spinach, broccoli, fresh milk, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, turnip, oranges, soy beans, and dates.  You can also drink cucumber or blueberry juice.</p>
<p>5.  Take a break from work after 20 or 30 minutes by looking at a distant object and blinking several times.  Don&#8217;t stare too long without blinking.  You can also do eye exercises by closing your eyes and rotating them clockwise, then, counter-clockwise.  Or, you may simply rub your palms and warm them over your tired eyes.</p>
<p>6.  Buy anti-glare screen for your computer monitor if you&#8217;re working long hours in front of it.  You may also wear anti-glare eyeglasses while working.</p>
