Having a good posture has always been a part of my wish list to a healthier me. All those yoga classes I’ve taken were never enough to give me that perfect posture to keep my spine healthy. As soon as I’m out of my class, I’m back again to my old habit of slouching into my comfort zone.

Habits can be unlearned and I have found a simple answer: The Alexander Technique. Frederick Matthias Alexander ( founder ), have noticed that having a tensed neck muscle leads to strain on his vocal chords. This simple but ingenious observation paved way for a technique that allows freedom of movement, good balance and better coordination.

To release all those tension in the body would be a total bliss. We all know that many sicknesses are contributed by stress, coupled with the free radicals around us and the unhealthy habits we do in our everyday lives.

The Alexander technique is unique from all other treatments as it sees the body as a whole. An expert teacher will guide you in changing those tension habits through a thorough observation of it. You can see the difference in a few lessons, but it is best to take a series of thirty.

I have noticed that our breathing has a vital impact in the way we walk. The Alexander technique helps in correcting the way we tense our neck, arms, spine and the rest of our bodies. It can be hard to do at first, especially with the slump habit we have been used to for the ages. I find it even tedious to be always on the lookout: the way I walk, sit or stand – and doing it naturally.

In the end, these conscious efforts will become another habit and this time, for the better. Being poised without the effort brings more than all the confidence we can muster… a healthier body, starting with the way we breathe.
